2009 Anime Review

Image
( cross-posted from the anime blog) This includes Autumn 2008 anime that has episodes aired in 2009. However, it does not include 2009 anime that are still airing currently. Anime with images are the ones I would wish to highlight the most. The rest are anime that were also aired and may have my comments on them. Some anime (mostly targeted at kids), OAV, and movies are not listed here. Toradora (Autumn 2008, 25 episodes) Though the chracter designs were somewhat erm different from anime I've watched prior to this, I really looked forward to this anime. From Yuuji's sacry face, to Aisaka reducing from fierce to rather shy. To Aru Majutsu no Index (Autumn 2008, 24 episodes) Well, it's great, but the long draggy scenes in the first few episodes made me drop this once. I mean, 75% of those episodes at the same spot talking about the same thing. Did picked it up later on and its spinoff (Railgun) though. Related anime: To Aru Kagaku no Railgun (Autumn 2009) Shugo Chara!!

444th post: Differences from the manga and anime

Image
I recently bought the manga, I don't mind the chronological order being mixed up, but switching characters is very glaringly obvious. Especially episode 6. Some unknown judgment girl has been switched with Komari during the searching scene. They are also searching at a bridge instead of a tree. I can understand a tree, but why a bridge?

Minor stuff noticed in To Aru Kagaku no Railgun

Those drinks... they look familiar... where have I seen them before? Let's have a closer look at the drink. Curry Soup? Soup of the bear? Well, I don't remember the name, but I know it had that design. Ah! It's one of the drinks that came out that had earlier swallowed Touma's 2000 yen note in Index . The covers appear to be based on actual magazines, but let's focus on the bottom of where Mikoto is standing at. Wait?! "Denki Daioh" with the cover of Shana??? About the Shakugan no Shana S OVA that just came out this month??? Speaking of Shana, this scene in the same episode reminds me of the Shana Anime when the Fuzetsu is activated. These two images are of the same place, with the 1st image being chronologically later than the 2nd. However, there is no closet in the first image. (Note: Kuruko is on Mikoto's bed) Let's zoom in at the study desk behind Kuruko's bed. Railgun makes the place look smaller than Index . The fridge is still there bu

Related: Summer/Spring review , Spring 2009 preview , Spring 2009 Review Forgive me for having this out quite late. (Kämpfer ep2 would be airing in a few hours.) Let's just get it started as this is a continuation of the previous Spring/Summer anime review post. ( Note: Screenshots may not feature the main character or suggestive scenes in the anime.) "This library is the best place to fight" Kämpfer けんぷファー Rating: Medium-High Description: Senou Natsuru is your normal, everyday high school student. However he´s been chosen to be a Kampfer, who´s objective consists on fighting other Kampfer with either guns, swords or magic, however, there´s catch; first you can´t chose if you´re a Kampfer or not, and second, you must have the body of a girl to use your powers. Comments: Haven't seen a Male-to-Female transformation for quite a long time. When was the last one? Simoun ? Kashimashi ? Ether way, it was a long time ago.

Where did I put it.... Oh here it is. I would like to put images from the episodes, but I don't have them. Umineko is the only exception among the dropped anime with screenshot since I just dropped it at the time of typing. Oh, I did hear that anime that I had highlighted in bold is quite good, including those that I did not watch. Anime I didn't watch at all Well these were anime that were stated to air for both Spring and Summer seasons, but didn't watch them mainly due to lack of interest.

429th post: Theories of a possible new Haruhi season

Image
( cross-posted from the anime blog ) There was the original Summer 2006 14-episode and the renewed Spring 2009 28-episode of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱), along with The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya (涼宮ハルヒちゃんの憂鬱) on YouTube shortly before the 2009 renewal. At the time the renewal was announced, people thought that it was a repeat broadcast. However, people noted that it was aired in chronological order with some networks airing The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00 (朝比奈ミクルの冒険 Episode00) or The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Part 1 (涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱I) first, along with extended scenes from the DVD. Even then, people still ignored it. It wasn't until 8 episodes later when Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody (笹の葉ラプソディ), a new episode with a new ending theme (there was no OP in that episode), that people started to pay close attention to it. (People were expecting, The Vanishment of Haruhi Suzumiya (涼宮ハルヒの消失). I have earlier put up a table timeline based on the novel

Review of Spring 2009 Anime

Image
Links: Winter 2009 review Spring 2009 list Huh? Anime like "Library War", "Kure-nai", "Strike Witches" was Spring/Summer 2008 anime? Already? It seem that these were out not too long ago. Oh, and "Welcome to the NHK" (Summer 2006) too? Time sure flies... Anyways, here's a write-up of what I had seen through for the Spring 2009 anime. If it's a 11-13 episode series, it would be the entire thing, but if it's scheduled to have more, I would cover what I have already seen. Since I have dropped all the Winter 2009 anime, including "Sora Kake Girl", I won't be reviewing any of those. Eden of the East (東のエデン): Though the character design does not have the features from a typical anime, the great storyline and the details of places (like Whashinton DC) and objects makes up for it. The shocker about it was that the series ended as a cliffhanger with 2 movies scheduled in end-2009 and early-2010. Reminds me of: Code Geass as tha

394th post: Large Foot?

Image
I was watching K-On! episode 6, when I thought I saw something odd: There was a extra large feet in the air at the center! Didn't really see this earlier as it was too fast. I was like, (O_O) when I saw that.

385th post:: misinterpritations

Image
In the post I put up before this , I had trouble typing the lyrics with overlapping characters in various sizes. In the left of the image, do I type "ああ" or "あぁ"? "好き" or "女子き"? "せつない" or "せっなり"? "大丈夫" or "丈大夫"? "か5に入" or "から二人"? "い", "II", "11" or "り"? I know what it is by looking at the rest of the lines, the ones around it, and playing the song, but it's hard to read. (I can't even read my own handwriting...) It gets worse if it's cursive or text from the 19th century AD or earlier. As for listening but don't have the official lyrics,"フルスロットな脳内" (Full slot na nounai) could be misheard as "Full Throttle wa What am I?". If you have looked at the lyrics and hear the song at the same time for Lucky Star (らき☆すた) opening, you would find that it's hard to follow. The most obvious is the "曖昧3センチ" (At vag

381st post: preview for k-on episode 8

Image
In the preview for K-On episode 8, I spotted Ui (Yui's younger sister by 1 year) to be wearing the Sakura High with a red ribbon on it. It's not obvious due the primary focus on other members. With the fast-paced nature, with the previous episode being Christmas and New Year themed, this episode seem to be exactly a year from episode 1. Looking around, Azusa Nakano could also be joining them. With them performing at the Budokan before they graduate, and 5 episodes left before the end of the spring season, I wouldn't be surprised that K-On would have 24 episodes in total. I know I'm behind on doing this, but I had just posted my writeup on episode 4 earlier today, where they head to the beach. Far behind enough that the widescreen (and uncropped) version to be avalable. Why are they are wearing maid costumes? Probably having a club showcase for the newcommers or something.

Review of Winter 2009 anime

Image
Links: Autumn 2008 list + review of Summer & Spring 2008 anime Winter 2009 list Spring 2009 list The Winter 2009 anime season was a big letdown. However, in this review, I would also include 24-episode anime from the earlier Autumn 2008 season I could think of. For a review of 12-episode and the first half of the 24-episode shows, check out the review I did on New Year's Eve . Known to be carried over from Autumn 2008 season: Gundam 00 Season 2 - Never watched this. However, I did watch some of the episodes of the first season in 2007 and some in the related world of Gundam. Except for Code Geass (including R2) and Marcross Frontier, I find anime that are set in the future/space, and/or have large robots are difficult to follow. Time traveling too. Michiko e Hatchin - It follows a prison escapee and an abused orphan in Latin America to meet together to form an unlikely pair. Mentioned in the earlier review that I had dropped after the first few episode due to late and irregu

Something's wrong... (3)

From Toradora! episode 13, where Takasu is running with Minori in a race. The two girls not screaming on the left seems to have bodies that are too big for their heads. Was this intentional since it's only for a while? Also, shortly after this, the audience is spotted to have angry, gangster-like faces but have excited faces when Takasu and Minori crosses the finishing line. PS. With reference to the 2nd girl in the foreground on the right, I have always noticed that background characters are better designed that the main characters of the anime.

Furniture broke; a lot of photos taken

Image
(Note: Photo taken in November 2006 (13 months ago); all the things in this picture had moved quite a lot since then.) The black part near the top you see in the picture on the left broke some time ago when I was moving boxes up there. As I had removed the mattress below earlier to do stuff under the bed, I managed to grab hold of the closet to the right (not reflected in the image) in time. The frame of the bed looks like its falling apart (it's made of wood) and could break at any moment. The furniture set is quite old. It's been around since I moved in in Dec 1996 (11 years ago). Anyways, I now have images taken from yesterday (24 Dec 2007) and today (25 Dec 2007) that would (probably) help with my school project, which I haven't started. More would come soon from the same place until 2 Jan 2008. Of course, not all of the images would appear in the final version. I'll try to do it differently from other people (that are around me). Since it's most likely to be Ja
